AI and Crowdsourcing for Archival Journal Transcription

  • National Mechanics Bar and Restuarant 22 South 3rd Street Philadelphia, PA, 19106 United States (map)

While on expeditions, natural scientists often use field journals or notebooks to track data such as weather reports, environmental descriptions, and species names. Scientists may also include notes about their thoughts and experiences. The Academy of Natural Sciences is using artificial intelligence and crowdsourcing to extract text from field journals in our archives, which will uncover new insights and engage the public in community science. Our Cataloging and Digital Resources Librarian Briana Giasullo will talk about the process and some interesting results.
